Data Storage
Your notes are stored in multiple locations depending on their state:
• Published Notes: Stored permanently on the Arweave blockchain. Once published, your notes exist forever and cannot be deleted.
• Local Notes: Temporarily stored in your browser's localStorage while you're editing them. These are cleared when you publish to Arweave or save as drafts.
• Share Links: Share tokens are stored temporarily and expire after 30 minutes for security.
• Published Notes: Permanently stored on Arweave blockchain. They exist forever once published and cannot be deleted.
• Local Notes: Stored in your browser's localStorage until you publish them, save as drafts, or clear your browser data. They are automatically removed when published to Arweave.
• Share Links: Configurable duration (15 minutes to 24 hours). After expiration, the link becomes invalid and cannot be used to access the note. Single-use tokens expire after first access.
• Drafts: Automatically deleted after 28 days, or until you publish them or delete them manually. Stored in encrypted Redis storage.
If you clear your browser's localStorage:
• Published notes on Arweave: Remain safe and accessible. You can reload them using your wallet address and transaction IDs stored in DigitalOcean Spaces.
• Local unpublished notes: Will be lost. Always publish important notes to Arweave for permanent storage.
• Drafts: Remain safe in encrypted Redis storage (not affected by browser data clearing).
• Favorites and metadata: Remain safe in DigitalOcean Spaces (not affected by browser data clearing).
• Your wallet: If stored in localStorage, you may need to re-import it. Always keep a backup of your wallet key.
No. Once a note is published to Arweave, it becomes permanently stored on the blockchain and cannot be deleted. This is by design - Arweave provides permanent, immutable storage. Before publishing, make sure you're comfortable with the content being stored forever.
Security & Privacy
Your notes are encrypted using AES encryption with your wallet address as the encryption key before being stored on Arweave. This means:
• Only you can decrypt your notes using your wallet
• Even though data is on a public blockchain, it's encrypted and unreadable without your wallet
• The encryption happens client-side before upload
• We never have access to your plaintext notes
No. We cannot access your notes because:
• Notes are encrypted with your wallet key before storage
• Encryption happens in your browser (client-side)
• We never see your wallet private key
• Even if we could access the encrypted data on Arweave, we cannot decrypt it without your wallet
We store minimal information:
• Your wallet address (public, used for encryption key)
• Transaction IDs of published notes (public on Arweave)
• Encrypted note content on Arweave
We do NOT store:
• Your wallet private key
• Unencrypted note content
• Personal information
• Usage analytics or tracking data
Share links are designed with maximum security:
• Note content is encrypted directly with your password (no other encryption keys)
• Password is never stored anywhere - you must share it separately
• Links expire after the duration you set (15 minutes to 24 hours)
• Each link is single-use (can only be accessed once)
• Links contain encrypted content that is validated server-side
• The shared note content remains encrypted until decrypted by the recipient with the password
• No permanent record of share links or passwords is kept
• Link creation time is shown in the share popup for reference
Features & Usage
No account required! You only need an Arweave wallet. You can create a new wallet or import an existing one. Your wallet serves as both your identity and your encryption key.
1. Write your note in the editor
2. Click the 'Publish' button
3. Your note will be encrypted and uploaded to Arweave
4. You'll receive a transaction ID that you can use to access your note forever
Note: Publishing is permanent and cannot be undone.
Published notes on Arweave are immutable (cannot be changed). However, you can:
• Create a new note with your edits
• Publish the new version
• Both versions will exist on Arweave
Alternatively, you can edit notes before publishing them.
Tags help you organize your notes:
• Use @tagname in your note content to automatically create tags
• Tags are extracted from published notes and associated with transaction IDs
• You can view all notes with a specific tag in the Tags view
• Tags are stored in DigitalOcean Spaces and synced across your devices using your wallet address
• Tags only work with published notes (not local or draft notes)
Drafts are unpublished notes that you're still working on:
• Save your work as a draft to continue editing later
• Drafts are stored in encrypted Redis storage (not in browser localStorage)
• Drafts are automatically deleted after 28 days
• You can have multiple drafts
• Drafts are encrypted with your wallet key and associated with your wallet address
• Drafts persist even if you clear browser data
1. Open a published note (only published notes can be shared)
2. Click the 'Share' button in the editor toolbar
3. A popup will appear asking you to set a password (required, minimum 6 characters)
4. Confirm the password by entering it twice
5. Set the link validity duration (15 minutes to 24 hours)
6. The note content is encrypted directly with your password using AES encryption
7. A share link will be generated with the encrypted content
8. Copy both the share link and password to share with recipients
9. The recipient needs both the link and password to decrypt and view the note
Important: The password is never stored anywhere (not on servers, not in databases, not in logs). You must share it separately through a secure channel (encrypted message, phone call, etc.). Share links expire after the set duration and can only be used once. Link creation time is displayed for reference.
Technical
Arweave is a decentralized storage network that provides permanent data storage. Unlike traditional cloud storage, data stored on Arweave is guaranteed to exist forever. It uses blockchain technology to ensure data permanence and immutability.
Publishing to Arweave requires AR tokens to pay for permanent storage. However, we offer free uploads through the Irys bundler service, which covers the cost for you. You can also pay directly with AR tokens if you prefer.
Arweave is a decentralized network with data replicated across many nodes worldwide. The network is designed to be highly resilient. Even if some nodes go down, your data remains accessible through other nodes. The permanent nature of Arweave storage means your data is designed to last forever.
Yes! You can export all your notes to a ZIP file for backup. The export includes:
• All local notes (from browser localStorage)
• All drafts (from encrypted Redis storage)
• All published notes (from Arweave and metadata)
Use the 'Export Notes' feature in the sidebar to download everything. The ZIP file contains all your notes in a portable format that you can keep as a backup or import into another instance.
